What is a Saturn return?
A Saturn return is when Saturn comes back to the exact spot it held when you were born. That takes about 29.5 years, so most people have their first one at about 29 and a second at about 58. Many people connect this time with big decisions about work, relationships and who they want to be. Enter your birth date above to see your own dates.
Start
The day Saturn comes within 5 degrees of your birth position.
Exact
The day it is right on the spot. For about four in ten people, this happens three times.
End
The day it moves away and this chapter closes.
Common questions
How old am I at my Saturn return?
Saturn is back on its birth position for the first time when you are between about 28 and 30, for most people around 29. The second comes at about 58 to 59, and a third at about 87 to 89. Your own dates depend on where Saturn was when you were born, which is why the calculator asks for your birthday.
Do I need my birth time?
No. Saturn moves slowly, so your birth date alone usually gives dates within a day or two. Your time and place add which area of life it touches. If Saturn turns around close to your birth position during your return, your birth time can move the dates by months, and your results will tell you when that applies.
How long does a Saturn return last?
Saturn stays within 5 degrees of your birth position for about one to one and three-quarter years. It stays in your birth sign for longer, usually about two to three years, and many astrologers count that whole stretch as the season of your return.
Why do I have more than one exact date?
Saturn appears to move backward for several months each year. If that happens right around your birth position, Saturn crosses the spot three times: forward, back and forward again. About six in ten people get one exact date and about four in ten get three.
When is my second Saturn return?
At about 58 to 59. Your results list the dates of your first, second and third returns, so you can see all of them at once. Returns too close to 2100 are not calculated.
How do I know if I am in my Saturn return?
Enter your birth date and the first line of your result says it plainly: you are in it now and until when, or the day yours starts.
Is a Saturn return a bad thing?
Astrologers read it as a time of taking stock. Saturn is linked with structure, responsibility and patience, so people often connect this stretch with decisions about work, relationships and what they want to build. Astrology is a tradition for reflection, and it has no scientific evidence behind it.
Why do Saturn return calculators give different dates?
They use different definitions of when it starts and ends. Some count only a few degrees around the exact spot, others the whole sign. We show the exact dates, a 5 degree window and your whole sign season, and you can change the window under Change how close counts on your result.
Is my birth information stored?
The calculation runs in your browser and your details stay on your device, so your dates are here when you come back. They are only saved with us if you sign in, ask for the daily email, buy a report or subscribe, and you can delete them any time.
How to use it
- Enter your birth date. Add your time and place if you know them. Your time zone is worked out for you.
- See your dates. Start, exact and end, in your own time zone, for your first, second and third returns.
- See what is next. Check any time. Your details are remembered on this device.
How to read your result
The top line tells you where you stand today. Below it, the large date is the next day Saturn is exactly on its birth position, or the most recent one if those have passed.
Your dates then run in order. The start and end mark the time Saturn is close to your birth position. The exact passes are the days it is right on it. When three are listed, the middle one happens while Saturn is moving backward.
If you gave your birth time and place, you also see which house of your chart Saturn is in, and so which part of life astrologers would look at first: home, work, friendships or something else. Your Saturn sign and what it means are at the end.
